Feature: The Newsette - Summer Skincare Swaps
Summer skincare requires a strategy. Whether you're spending more time outdoors or just sweating more, your routine needs a warm-weather refresh. We asked celebrity facialist Monika Dragaj to share her top tips for keeping your skin balanced, bright, and breakout-free. From the sunscreen mistake that could undo your progress to the gentle exfoliant she swears by for fading dark spots, consider this your cheat sheet to glowing all season long.

When it comes to summer skincare, what’s the first thing you recommend people change or adjust in their routines?
Treat your skin like your summer wardrobe—swap the heavy stuff. Brightening serums and lightweight emulsions work better in the heat. Keep richer creams for nighttime, and during the day, opt for something light. A water-resistant sunscreen like Isdin is a must for sweat and swim days, plus it helps repair existing sun damage.

Why is sunscreen even more important during summer, especially for people investing in skincare treatments?
The sun’s UV rays are stronger, and if you’ve been investing in skincare treatments, skipping SPF can undo all that hard work. Sun exposure speeds up aging and triggers pigmentation, so sunscreen is the best defense and the most important product you can use.

Pigmentation seems to be a big issue in summer. What are your favorite ways to treat (and prevent) dark spots?
Biologique Recherche has an excellent range of products that not only treat but also prevent pigmentation. The most popular of these is Lotion P50 PIGM 400. This is a daily brightening exfoliating treatment that gently removes dead cells and helps fade dark spots over time. It’s super effective yet gentle enough to be used daily. It works gradually to even out the skin tone.

For people who are exposing more skin at the beach or pool, what body care steps should they be adding? UV-protective swimwear is ideal, but if that’s not your vibe, be sure to reapply SPF at least every two hours. After sun exposure, Venn’s Probiotic & Firming Body Cream is my go-to. It hydrates deeply without feeling greasy, and the probiotics help calm and nourish skin, even sunburned areas.

If someone has sensitive or oily skin, how can they switch up their moisturizer without sacrificing hydration? Although the temperatures are higher, we still need a moisturizer. With the heat, our skin evaporates moisture at a higher rate, leaving us dehydrated. This is where I love to recommend emulsion creams—they’re lightweight but effective. Emulsion Originelle Regenerante adds glow without heaviness, and Emulsion Gel Biosensible S.R. gel moisturizer helps balance oil while soothing sensitive skin.

Are there any summer-friendly product swaps you swear by to keep skin glowing but not greasy?
I typically recommend sticking to your milky cleanser and exfoliant. You can swap out your serums for ones that help treat and prevent pigmentation, and you can swap your moisturizer if you prefer a lighter consistency. I would add a beautiful face mist to the routine also. I'm a big fan of  Venn Defence Mist, as it kills 99% of acne bacteria in 90 seconds and also boosts hydration significantly.  It’s also very refreshing. (I get so many compliments on the glow it gives me!) I keep it in my purse and mist throughout the day. It’s formulated with 80% actives, specifically their microbiome-strengthening probiotic blend. It's also great to use during or after workouts to rebalance the skin. Another plus is that it is excellent for calming redness and inflammation from too much time in the sun.
